Living in a small town, I share my life with my husband Russell (married in 1977), five children (one still at home), and six cats (one indoors, the others outside).

I teach an online class called “The Christmas Notebook” which is about all things holiday prep. The many facets of celebrating Christmas comprises one of my favorite hobbies. Other favorite things include gardening, reading, cooking, and scrapbooking.

science timeline

DD made a science timeline to use for recording scientists and historical facts, which I hope will help her visualize where these things fall in the course of history. Visualizing it should also help her see how scientific study advanced as time progressed. As we continue through the science textbook, she can add more and […]

God’s minute

It’s that time of year…time to start something new…things are changing…it’s autumn and the beginning of a new school year… Some things don’t change, however. Our need for meaningful prayer, for instance. I found a little book published in 1916, called God’s Minute: A Book of 365 Daily Prayers Sixty Seconds Long for Home Worship. […]

this year’s butterflies

We are raising caterpillars again this year. The first one emerged Wednesday and we released it this morning. Two more emerged this morning. The wings look so crumpled when the butterflies first emerge. But they soon pump up and become full and beautiful. We have seven chrysalises still in the fish tank. While watching the […]

A few pictures from our yard, where autumn is quietly taking over, then the menu. A buckeye butterfly on the garlic chives. The chives attract a host of flies, bees, moths, and butterflies. This very tattered yellow swallow tail butterfly was still going strong, sucking up all the nectar it could. The magnolia leaves look […]

kitty in the classroom

DD’s pet Buttercup loves to nap in the classroom. DD lined a cardboard box with a rug to make a bed for Buttercup. She set it on a chair next to her desk. But sometimes Buttercup thinks she needs to be a little closer to the action than that. Today, she hopped up onto the […]

menu plan monday ~ august 30, 2010

After our first full week of homeschooling, I have come to two conclusions. One: I can do this. Two: There is SO much I don’t know about how to do this. But I think it will be fun as we progress. Currently, the classroom looks pretty bare. We are hoping to remodel the large attic […]

zilli loves my new chair

When DD moved into her apartment a few weeks ago, I gave her the recliner I usually use in the library. DH bought a new one for me and Zilli seems to think he bought it for her. At least she appears to be comfy. 🙂 ~~Rhonda

finally…nice weather

Between the hot, humid weather we’ve suffered under for so long and a two-week-long head/chest cold, I have not stepped outside since August 5. Until today. The weather was beautiful. I mowed the front yard and it felt so good to get back outside. There were more than twenty of these tiny Pearl Crescent butterflies […]

menu plan monday ~ august 23, 2010

This year, we began homeschooling, first time ever. DD is in seventh grade and, considering all options, this seems to be the best plan. We are still finding our way. Hopefully, we’ll find our groove after a few weeks. Right now, I feel like there is so much I have to remember to do…lists to […]
