recent bouquets for church

The garden is dwindling, but fall is putting out some beautiful color and even some blossoms here and there. Here are two bouquets recently made for church that show the variety still available this time of year. This basket bouquet is made with hydrangeas and sweet autumn clematis. And this burst of fall color is […]

this year’s butterflies

We are raising caterpillars again this year. The first one emerged Wednesday and we released it this morning. Two more emerged this morning. The wings look so crumpled when the butterflies first emerge. But they soon pump up and become full and beautiful. We have seven chrysalises still in the fish tank. While watching the […]

finally…nice weather

Between the hot, humid weather we’ve suffered under for so long and a two-week-long head/chest cold, I have not stepped outside since August 5. Until today. The weather was beautiful. I mowed the front yard and it felt so good to get back outside. There were more than twenty of these tiny Pearl Crescent butterflies […]

baby butterflies

Two years ago we raised 18 black swallowtail butterflies. We wanted to try it again this year, so Sunday DH went out to check the parsley and found five butterfly eggs. Today, all the eggs hatched. Look at this tiny little guy. We’re looking forward to watching them grow into beautiful butterflies. ~~Rhonda 🙂

Sunday bouquet

The surprise lilies have been blooming for almost two weeks. Last Sunday the bouquet was made using them (pink), flowers from the ‘Royal Standard’ hostas (white), and some spirea branches for fill. Pretty in pink. With thanks to my honey who goes out into the garden every Sunday morning in search of bouquet blossoms. ~~Rhonda

a few pictures from the garden…

My mower came back from the shop today. I spent a couple of hours mowing the yard. It really needed it. Now it needs a good rain. But the blooms are still blooming. Here are a few pictures from around the garden. The crape myrtle looked so pretty against the blue sky. The daisies are […]

into the garden

DH and I spent a little time in the garden this morning. The weather was so nice! We had some new hostas to plant. The bed under the mulberry tree is a great place to start hostas. There’s a small spring that seeps up through the soil and it keeps the ground moist and cool […]

cooler temps this week

We’re seeing cooler temperatures than we’ve had for a few weeks. It makes the garden much more enjoyable! ‘Heaven’s Trophy’ Purple Coneflowers ‘Monterrey Jack’ ‘Fooled Me’ This interesting blossom was not only a polymerus bloom, but a fused bloom, as well. Another polymerous bloom this week…’Catherine Woodbury.’ ‘Chicago Blackout’ ‘Carolicolassal’ ‘Dragon King’ ‘Accent on Style’ […]

blooms, blooms, blooms

The daylilies are remarkable right now. Lots of blooms, lots of color, lots of wonderful fragrance in the garden. The Japanese beetles have arrived and are leaving a few holes here and there. Thankfully, they do not eat daylilies! I’ve been checking the Queen Anne’s Lace for butterfly eggs, but haven’t found any yet. Perhaps […]
