naptime for buttercup

You can find Buttercup under the bubble light tree every afternoon, where she enjoys a long nap before DD gets home from school. She doesn’t bother the ornaments…just makes a little nest and snuggles in.

And if DD is late, Buttercup prowls the front hall, crying until she gets home.

Buttercup loves to sit on the stool in the kitchen. This morning she found it in a spot of sun and took a little snooze.

Buttercup’s favorite winter napping spot is on the heating vent in the kitchen. She was totally asleep when I took the picture.

A quick kitty post, then I’m off to bed…

Niko enjoys a head scratch. Some days he seeks more attention than others. He likes to be around us all the time, watching what we’re doing, but he isn’t real cuddly most of the time. Note the cat fountain in the background (never thought I’d own one of those!), but he has been happier since we got it. He no longer cries for drinks from the sink.

Happy never sat on this little ledge when the table was in the dining room. Now the table sits in the front hall.

Niko is under the dining room chair, while Buttercup sits in the window, watching him. Buttercup follows him around the house and keeps an eye on him. They haven’t become friendly yet, but they do tolerate one another pretty well.

The kitchen room was once an enclosed porch. This window, which looks from the dining room into the kitchen was once a window to the outside, prior to the porch. It makes a great pass through for food…and cats…

The second day of the house tour went very well. I’ll post about that soon!

Last year, my sister Paula gave me two large deer, as well as two tall slim artificial trees. The trees will be used on the front porch. The deer have found a home in front of the fireplace. Niko and Buttercup were both very interested and immediately checked them out.

Genny and I decided the deer needed something and she brought in some magnolia leaves. Perfect. We will use those for the open house and for the house tour, as well.

Here’s the coat closet after DH took the old floor and subfloor out. But before the new flooring was installed. This was a half bath when we bought the house. A tiny bath in an awkward spot. We made it into a coat closet and it worked much better that way.

After the new flooring was put in. Even better.

Zak checks out the new floors in the laundry room.

Poor Buttercup spent the past two days in the basement while the flooring guys were here. As soon as we let her up, she headed out to the addition and checked out the new floors with Zak.

not quite friends…yet

Yesterday and today, we left the doors open for Niko and let him come and go as he pleased. While I worked in the scrapbook room last night, Niko stayed nearby. He seems to like to be around people. He was interested in the printer when I ran off the bulletin inserts. The printer always draws any nearby kitties when it begins making noises. They can’t seem to help it…they just have to investigate.

Yesterday, Buttercup spent time in the basement, but today, she was upstairs while Niko was free to roam. Most of the day, Niko stayed upstairs and Buttercup stayed downstairs. This evening, after supper, DD brought Niko downstairs. Buttercup sat on the kitchen stool and watched as Niko explored the things on the floor under the kitchen table. He didn’t realize at first that Buttercup was there.

Buttercup never moved, but she didn’t take her eyes off Niko.

Once Niko realized Buttercup was nearby, he sat under the chair and waited to see what would happen. After about 15 minutes he decided to go back upstairs. No hissing or growling…just a lot of watchful waiting.

I think they’re doing fine. There haven’t been any kind of kitty confrontations. It’s just a matter of time. They’ll be playing and snoozing together before you know it.

buttercup loves the railing

Last night, while DD was getting ready for bed, Buttercup waited for her by sitting on the railing at the top of the stairs.

And this morning, when I came down for breakfast, there she was guarding the newel post.

She’s been sitting there a lot lately. I’m not sure why she decided all of a sudden that this is a good resting spot.

Zilli and Buttercup

It’s been two years since we adopted Buttercup, Zilli, and Zak. They are fun additions to the family. I came across these pictures today while looking for something else. Zilli and Buttercup still play together almost every morning, early, chasing each other around the house at break-neck speed.

And here they are on the ladder and the library shelves. They are about six feet off the ground here.

Zak was a cutie, too.

Here is Buttercup now. She’s keeping an interested eye on the caterpillars in the fish tank. So far she hasn’t bothered them.

And Zilli, being cute.

And Zak, relaxing.

Funny how they have such distinct and separate personalities. A source of endless fun.
