The air was damp and chilly today. Hard to believe that in July we would have the air conditioning turned off for days in a row. And who would believe we would need to close the windows against the chilly air. But we did! The garden has enjoyed all the rain we’ve had for the past few months.

The black eyed Susans are a sea of color.

The tiger lilies are near the end of their bloom. A few last blossoms top the long lanky stems.

A helpful flickrite helped me ID this little green bug. I saw several of them on the tiger lilies. They are immature stink bugs. Never would have guessed that!

After counting the new daylilies, we found we bought 14 new ones last weekend. Four or five of those were mini daylilies. Mini doesn’t necessarily mean a small plant. It refers to the size of the blossom. Miniature daylilies have blooms that are under three inches in diameter.

DH planted the mini daylilies in the fenced garden.

Zak watched from the comfort of the birdbath.

Near the edge of the woods, the garden phlox backs the last of the ditch lilies.

I think I’ll get a blanket and watch one of my favorite shows…”Chopped.” I’ll see you in the garden tomorrow. To visit other gardens (where it may be warmer!) click on over to Jean’s place for Bloomin’ Tuesday!

After the four inches of rain we had on July 4, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to mow the entire yard. We have some low spots that can stay wet for a while. But I got it all done.

A lot of rain fell last night. There is still water standing in the center of the driveway. DH took this picture this morning from the roof of the house.

The rainfall filled the birdbaths.

The cats like to drink from the birdbath at the kitchen door. Perhaps they like bird-flavored water? Zilli looks like she expects lunch to fly in.

By the front porch, the hydrangeas are turning pinky purple.

I don’t remember where these lilies came from, but they are a lovely shade of red.

Here are a few daylilies…

‘Little Heavenly Angel’

‘Lady Emily’

I wish the sun had been shining when I took this picture. The catalpa tree is in full bloom and, in the sunlight, it gleams.

Hollyhocks have popped up here and there. They have a way of wandering around the yard. This one showed up in the front birdbath bed this year.

The ‘Paprika’ achillea needs to be divided. A candidate for the plant sale we’ll have in a few weeks, for sure.

With all the rain we had, yard work will be a bit slow for a few days. We’ll probably work on potting things for the plant sale. The damp ground IS good for digging.

The weather this week is beautiful. It’s a wonderful change from the rain we had last week. There are so many pretty things to see in the yard right now.

We were given this iris at a nursery after seeing it growing on their property in a bit of a slough. They didn’t know the name.

‘Alabaster Unicorn’ is one of my favorite irises.

An interesting thing about this iris is the horned beard. Most iris beards are rounded at the end. This one comes to a sharp point.

The irises hit their peak this last week. Still beautiful, but not the bountiful fullness of blossoms we had before.

Some of the early peonies are almost done, but there are plenty of the later ones still in full bloom.

I like this combo of the dark iris ‘Before the Storm’ and the light colored peony.

This rose was given to us by a friend. It’s a rambly brambly thing, but has a wonderful full rosy scent that fills the air.
