Today, DD spent a lot of time emptying her closet and her room in preparation for the removal of the old closet. DH began the demolition this evening. You can see the new blue color on the wall and the old brighter blue on the closet.

He says the walls are coming down easily.

Dad gives DD a few demo tips.

Having fun. BTW, she wrote on the wall just before she began to demo it. Just in case you were wondering how long the marker had been on the wall…

Making good progress…

The new closet will fit behind the bedroom door, in an unused space. Putting it there (and removing the old closet) will make more floor space for DD. We probably won’t get the new closet installed before the holidays, but at least we’ve taken a step in the right direction.

Redecorating the guest room, which was such a priority just before the holidays, has slowed way down. Thank goodness! I have been enjoying some time off from that project. I was just in there, though, sitting in the comfy chair, pondering some rearranging. I realized I hadn’t shown you the drapes! Laurie, my very sweet and dear friend, volunteered to make the drapery panels for the room.

Laurie saw this idea in a decorating magazine. So cute! And it leaves the beveled glass door panes free of covering, which I like a lot. Here, they are pulled to the left.

They can stand at both sides of the door.

Or be pulled shut when privacy is wanted. I have the panels for the window on the left wall in this picture. Laurie is working on the ones for the opposite larger window. For the holidays, we repurposed sheer panels that came from the master bedroom, which got new panels this year. These look perfect in this room and I plan to leave them up, under the drapes.

I *love* them. Exactly what I had in mind. BTW, I also love, love, love the darker blue ceiling! This room has 8′ ceilings and I was worried the dark color would not work. But it looks great and gets a lot of compliments when visitors see the room.

The pink tree turned out very cute! Not sure why DD didn’t want it on a box this year. But it’s her room, her tree. If she wants it on the floor when I’d prefer it on a box, no big deal.

For the open house, we taped the plans for her room to the end of the bed.

The overall plan:

DD is excited about what is happening in her room. We’re looking forward to more progress on the bed this week!

I know it’s crazy to try to get some of this stuff done before Sunday, but DD has been SO patient and looked so forward to having her room remodeled, that we want to see what we can finish before the open house. The carpenter told us he could have the bed done in time, so we are hoping that turns out to be so!

DH has been painting the room for the past several days. A little more work on the woodwork and the painting will be done.

The lime green is in a small indention in the wall. Her desk will be placed in front of this window. The closet to the right will be removed after Christmas and a new closet will be built to the right of the door to the room (which is where I was standing when I took the picture).

The carpenter is building a two story bed nook (the bedroom ceiling is 12′). The upper story will be a second bed for company, as well as a library nook for DD. The bed will have walls, windows, and steps up to the upper part. Each bed will have a ledge for a clock, a lamp, etc. Gary wired the outlets for us last week. Above the ledge will be shelves for books, display, etc.

I’m looking forward to posting pictures of this room when it is completed!

In the midst of everything else, we are painting DD’s room. She will be eleven soon and chose these colors. Aqua blue, bubble gum pink, and a touch of lime green. The woodwork will be glossy white.

We have a carpenter building a double decker bed (ceilings are 12′). He hopes to have the bed done before the open house. He will also build a desk area with shelves and cubbies, and put in a new closet with a bench seat that can serve as her “launch pad.” The pictured closet was added in the 1920′s and we will remove it after the end of the year. The launch pad is a place for her to prepare for the next day…a place to set out her clothes, her shoes, her book bag, etc.

The upper bunk will serve as a guest bed and as a reading nook. There will be shelves on the wall for her books, a lamp, and an outlet for other needs. DD has been *extremely* patient while this all takes longer than we had planned. The desk and closet will have to wait until after the Christmas festivities. But we are hoping the bed will be done soon!

The new counters were installed in the downstairs bath and the laundry room today. They look beautiful! While the installers were working on the counters (took about five hours), I watched the twins in the kitchen. I worked on drying more parsley, among other things.

The counter tops are Caesarstone, a quartz composite. The color is “Pacific Reflections.” It’s a cobalt blue with silver specks in it. Very pretty! The pictures do not do them justice.

We kept the sinks in both the bathroom and the laundry room. The faucets will be replaced with brushed nickel, and the cabinet knobs will be the same style, but in brushed nickel. The tile floors for the three bathrooms will be installed next Monday and Tuesday. The woodwork in this bathroom will be glossy white. The wall behind the countertop will be covered in a small white glass tile with blue streaks through it. The tile will be installed this Friday.

The laundry room sink is pink. It will be reglazed in white. It’s sitting in the hole off-center because it isn’t hooked up.

In a few years, I hope to put the same counters in the kitchen. I love the way they look.

The renovation continues. The new floors look great. We are beginning to move some things back into the addition. And even set up the crib in anticipation of our grandbabies being here next week.

The towel cupboard is back in the laundry room, but I haven’t restocked the shelves yet.

It will be a few weeks before the tile floors are installed in the bathroom, so we haven’t started serious painting in there. It was all we could do to finish the other rooms in time for the hardwood floors.

DH did paint a test patch on the wall so I could decide on the colors…medium or light on the wall? I think I’ll go with the medium, as shown. The wainscot and woodwork will be painted a glossy white. The wall around the medicine cabinet and the window will be covered with little blue and white glass tiles.
